A Fabergé ruby, sapphire and diamond lozenge shaped brooch, with a white fluted baton-shaped motif set with a cabochon-cut sapphire and ruby at finials, with rose-cut diamond collars, on a yellow gold lozenge shaped plaque with two different textured finishes, each side set with a cushion shaped old round brilliant-cut diamond and two rose-cut diamonds all designed as a floral motif with foliate details, length 4.9cm, width 2.5cm, gross weight 11.81 grams, workmaster August Hollming, circa 1890.

An important Fabergé brooch. Created in the shape of a gold lozenge with a white baton motif, this brooch is set with glittering diamonds, deep blue sapphires, and bright rubies. The house of Fabergé was established in St Petersburg in 1842, and by the lats nineteenth century, was Russia’s largest and most well-known jewellery house. This brooch bears the marks for Fabergé workmaster August Hollming, who is known for his surprisingly modern designs and contributions to Fabergé’s distinctive style. This brooch dates from c1890, but it could be almost Art Deco in style, exemplifying August Hollming’s modern taste and distinctive style.
