A dazzling and elegant late nineteenth century brooch. This brooch takes the form of two serpents, each sinuously curved over a central old-cut diamond. The intertwined serpents are set with further scintillating diamonds, and the eyes of the creatures are set with glinting cabochon-cut rubies. The stones are set to bright silver and a yellow gold back. During the Victorian era, serpent jewellery had several symbolic meanings, but the strongest association was with fidelity and everlasting love. A gorgeous piece.
