An Important Natural Pearl And Diamond Necklace

Description

An important natural pearl and diamond necklace, the six hundred and sixty eight pearls accompanied by SSEF Report 90383 stating to be natural of saltwater origin, strung to five rows graduating from the centre, with diameter ranging from 3.00mm to 7.40mm, all to a late Victorian oval-shaped clasp, centrally set with a round old brilliant-cut diamond estimated to weigh 1 carat surrounded by thirty-two smaller old cut diamonds weighing approximately a further 1.30 carats, all in silver cut-down setting, in yellow gold back, circa 1890, overall measuring approximately 60 to 50 cm length and 15 to 30mm width, gross weight 81.1 grams.

A magnificent pearl and diamond necklace. This astounding piece features five rows of graduating natural pearls, which are impressive, lustrous, and uniform in shape and size. The five rows of pearls meet at a scintillating diamond-set clasp featuring a central one carat diamond surrounded by further sparkling diamonds. Natural pearls are revered for their rarity and beauty, and this important necklace features six hundred and sixty-eight natural pearls of great nacre. During the Victorian era, pearl necklaces were popular, and ropes of natural pearls can be seen in many portraits of European royalty such as Franz Xaver Winterhalter’s 1857 portrait of Empress Maria Alexandrovna.
