Description

A late Victorian diamond and pearl crescent brooch, the yellow gold crescent alternatively set with seven old-cut diamonds and eight pearls graduating in size from the centre, the diamonds estimated to weigh ½ carat in total, the pearls measuring 0.3 to 0.1 mm in diameter, all rubover set to a yellow gold mount with a brooch fitting and a fine safety chain, circa 1890, measuring approximately 2.5cm in diamter, gross weight 6.6 grams.

A delicate and beautiful crescent moon brooch, adorned with sparkling diamonds and lustrous pearls set on gleaming gold, exemplifies the refined craftsmanship of circa 1880, during the Victorian era crescent moons were associated with the Goddess Diana, the Goddess of the Hunt. This brooch would make an elegant detail to add to a blouse or jacket.
