More informationA pair of early Victorian diamond-set drop earrings, each earring in the form of an English rose encrusted with old-mine cut diamonds, between two diamond-set links of foliate design, suspending a single old-mine cut diamond set drop, all suspended by a diamond-set cluster, the old-mine cut diamonds estimated to weigh 10 carats in total, all mounted in silver to yellow gold back, with later gold hook fittings, circa 1840, measuring approximately 6.4 x 1.8cm, gross weight 12.3 grams.
These ornate floral earrings are a beautiful example of jewellery from the early-Victorian romantic period. Due to the fashion at the time for intricately styled hair covering the ears, it was typical for earrings such as these to be long in order to be visible. With an array of glittering diamonds in a foliate design, these earrings are a statement piece when worn with evening wear.
