A pair of Byzantine gold earrings circa 600-700 AD, with later fittings, each earring with a crescent shaped openwork plaque depicting two peacocks drinking from a vase, with a hook and eye closure, the bottom edge of the crescent embellished with five gold spheres, circa 600-700 AD, each earring with a later added gold shepherd’s hook ear fitting, measuring 6.2 x 4.7cm, gross weight 15.2 grams.

A near identical pair in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum, Number M.6&A-1970, circa 600-700 AD.
