A Fabergé Nephrite Cache Pot By Michael Perchin, C1890

Description

A late nineteenth century Fabergé nephrite cache pot carved from a single piece of nephrite, the two colour gold rim top and base decorated with acanthus leaves, three gold ball feet, dimensions approximately 9.5cms x 6.7cms, workmaster Michael Perchin, St Petersburg, circa 1890, gross weight 62.5 grams.

This magnificent nephrite cache pot was made in around 1890 by Fabergé. Fabergé was established in St Petersburg in 1842, and by the late nineteenth century, was Russia’s largest and best-known jewellery house. The house has become known for their imperial commissions and their close ties to the family of Tsar Nicholas II. This pot was made under the supervision of workmaster Michael Perchin, one of the leading workmasters of Fabergé known for his contribution to the creation of the Imperial easter eggs. This cache pot, an ornamental receptacle to hold and and usually to conceal a flowerpot, is a perfect example of Faberge’s extravagant production of objets de luxe. This important piece is an excellent example of late nineteenth century Fabergé style and craftsmanship.
