More informationA pair of late Victorian reverse intaglio crystal cufflinks, the cabochon-cut crystal faces each depicting different images of game birds, each set on an 18 carat gold rubover mount, connected by a baton fastening, hallmarked 18 carat gold, circa 1900, measuring approximately 1.5cm long and 1.2cm wide, gross weight 11.6 grams.
A delightful pair of late nineteenth century cufflinks. These cufflinks are crafted using the reverse intaglio technique, whereby a crystal is carved and painted from behind, creating a three-dimensional effect that became popular for men’s jewellery in the late Victorian era. Each link depicts a different game bird in a detailed naturalistic setting. During the nineteenth century, novelty jewellery representing sporting pursuits such as shooting became popular, and these cufflinks are an excellent example of this style. These cufflinks would look excellent with a tweed suit.
