Description

A pair of French Art Deco sapphire and gold cufflinks, each link consisting of two square-shaped red and yellow gold plaques, each centrally set with a sugarloaf-cut sapphire, the plaques connected with link and bar fittings, bearing French marks for 18ct gold and indistinct makers mark, circa 1930, measuring 1.2 x 1.2cm, gross weight 14 grams.

A sleek pair of cufflinks featuring attractive sapphires. Made in 1930, these cufflinks truly showcase the style of the period with their simplicity of line and symmetrical, geometric form. Art Deco jewellery saw a revolution in jewellery design and offered a stark contrast to the more natural and organic forms favoured in Art Nouveau pieces. The rose gold and yellow gold plaques contrast nicely with the deep blue of the sugar-loaf sapphires. These cufflinks would be a nice finishing touch to a classic black tuxedo.
