A handsome late 18th century carnelian intaglio mounted as a ring, the intaglio carved after the 1772 medal of Garrick by Lewis Pingo. David Garrick was one of the most prominent actors and theatre mangers of his time. Manny of his reforms to theatre are still in place in today such as stage lighting being hidden from the audience. He also transformed audience behaviour and etiquette which led Samuel Johnson to remark “his profession made him rich and he made his profession respectable.”
