A fine and detailed Victorian stick pin. This stick pin features a realistically carved eagle sitting on a perch. The feathers and claws have been meticulously rendered, and the further lovely detail of the cabochon-ruby eye adds charm to this antique piece. This stick pin brings to mind the short 1851 poem by Alfred, Lord Tennyson titled ‘The Eagle’:
He clasps the crag with crooked hands;
Close to the sun in lonely lands,
Ring’d with the azure world, he stands.
The wrinkled sea beneath him crawls;
He watches from his mountain walls,
And like a thunderbolt he falls.
