More informationA late Victorian diamond and ruby cockerel stick pin, the body set with twenty-three rose-cut diamonds, the tail flanked with nine round faceted rubies estimated to weigh 0.1 carats, the eye set with a small cabochon-cut ruby, mounted in silver and yellow gold, with gold pin fitting, circa 1890, measuring 1.3 x 1.3, the pin measuring 7.2cm long, gross weight 2.6 grams.
A quirky late Victorian diamond and ruby cockerel stickpin. During the Victorian period the cockerel was a used as a memorial symbol and seen as recognised as awakening. Stickpins were a very popular gift during this period, Tsar Nicholas II had a considerable collection which have been recorded through watercolours in jewel albums. This animated stick pin comes from comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to His Majesty the King.
