Description

A victorian gold pig stick pin, the pig realistically carved in 18ct yellow gold, set to a yellow gold stick pin, bearing Austro Hungarian import marks, circa 1880, the head of the pin measuring 15.70mm x 9.15mm, the pin measuring 6cm, gross weight 1.4 grams.

A charming Victorian gold pig stickpin. During the Victorian period there were many tales of pigs living in the sewer systems of London. In the book London Lore: The Legends and Traditions of the World’s Most Vibrant City, author Steve Roud mentions the appearance in a Daily Telegraph article from October 1859, of pig believed to be living below Hampstead. This charmingly naturalistic piece has the intricate details of bristles etched into the gold and would add the perfect touch to silk tie or the lapel of a jacket.
