A Late Victorian pearl-set horse-shoe stickpin, featuring a horseshoe embellished with nine half-pearls mille-grain set to the yellow gold mount with a yellow gold pin fitting, circa 1890, measuring approximately 5.1 x 1.0cm in total, gross weight 1.88 grams.

This is a wonderful example of the Victorian’s use of symbolism in their personal adornment. For the Victorian’s, the horseshoe was used to denote good luck on to the wearer and protect against misfortune. The rich yellow gold mount of the horse shoe compliments the creamy lustre of the pearls wonderfully, creating a subtle affect.
