Description

A French Art Nouveau gold and pearl stick pin, depicting a phoenix with circling plumage, holding a single small pearl in its beak, the pearl measuring approximately 3.4mm, set to a plain gold stick pin setting, circa 1910, the pin bearing French marks for 18ct gold, measuring 7.1 x 1.2cm in total, gross weight 3.1 grams.

A charming French Art Nouveau gold and pearl stick pin. The image of the phoenix was popular during this period; symbolizing rebirth and the sinuous lines of the bird were easily encapsulated in the style of the flowing lines of the Art Nouveau. This was especially the case in France around 1910, when the famous Ballets Russes company performed Igor Stravinsky’s L’Oiseau de feu or The Fire Bird, which portrayed Russian folklore tales surrounding the Fire bird.
