A Belle Époque Carved Yellow Gold Eagle Brooch

A Belle Époque carved yellow gold eagle brooch, of neo-classical design including swags, Greek-key motifs and a centrally carved eagle surmounting a single claw-set old brilliant-cut diamond estimated to weigh 0.2 carats, all mounted in gold and suspending an articulated single pearl drop, bearing French gold mark for 18ct gold, circa 1890, measuring 4 x 3.5cm, gross weight 8 grams.

This lovely French brooch was made in around 1890, during the Belle Epoque period. The central eagle holds a lively diamond in its claws and is surrounded by meander or Greek key motifs as well as swags of gold culminating in a lustrous pearl. This wonderful brooch wonderfully incorporates both naturalistic and neoclassical motifs.
