A Nineteenth Century French Gold Cherub Brooch
A French nineteenth century gold cherub brooch, the body of yellow gold with rose-cut diamond encrusted wings, carrying a garland of oval faceted rubies and old cut diamond, with twisted ribbon ends, measuring approximately 1.5cm x 1cm, circa 1880, gross weight 10.8 grams. Unmarked tested as 18ct gold. This antique brooch is in Excellent condition.
This delicate and romantic brooch was made in France in the late nineteenth century. The cherub is a sentimental figure: sweet and angelic but also mischievous, symbolising love and passion. The cherub carries a floral garland of diamonds and vivid rubies, which glitter beautifully and with his diamond encrusted wings, this lovely brooch makes a delightful accessory.
