A Victorian Garnet And Diamond Pendant/ Brooch
A Victorian garnet and diamond pendant/brooch, the heart shaped cabochon garnet surmounted by a floral and foliate spray, set throughout with rose-cut, old brilliant-cut and cushion cut-diamonds, to a delicately etched gold closed back setting with compartment for hair, all suspending a similarly set pear shaped cabochon garnet drop, circa 1840, measuring approximately 5.7 x 2.8cm, gross weight 14.4 grams.
A dramatic Victorian brooch. This brooch features two large cabochon garnets surrounded by floral motifs set with dazzling diamonds. The dark garnet provides a wonderful contrast to the diamonds and exemplifies the Victorian taste for bold jewellery. The back of this piece has a locket compartment for holding a lock of hair, a typical feature of Victorian jewellery. This piece would look stunning pinned to the shoulder of an evening gown or worn as a stunning pendant on a ribbon or chain.
