A beautifully detailed late Victorian brooch. This brooch forms the symbol of the Caduceus, the staff carried by Hermes in Greek mythology. The brooch is comprised of a yellow gold staff with a diamond and pearl base, two intertwined snakes curled around the staff set throughout with diamonds, and the top of the staff, which features wings set with further diamonds and pearls. This symbol has held many associations throughout history but most especially is associated with the medical profession.
