A fine and detailed enamel and gold lorgnette made by Fabergé. Fabergé was established in St Petersburg in 1842, and by the late nineteenth century, was Russia’s largest and best-known jewellery house. The house has become known for their royal commissions and their close ties to the family of Tsar Nicholas II. A lorgnette was a form of opera glass, and in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, became a popular type of accessory to women’s evening wear. The handle of this piece features pearl white enamel decorated with bright yellow and rose gold floral motifs. The spectacles are edged in rose gold and fold inwards towards the handle. This spectacular piece is both a functional object and a piece of personal adornment.
