A wonderful late Victorian brooch in the shape of a lizard. Brooches in the shape of naturalistically formed insects and reptiles became popular in the late nineteenth century, and this realistically crafted lizard is a wonderful example of this style. The lizard is set throughout with glinting diamonds, with a line down its back of lime-green demantoid garnets. The eyes are set with glinting rubies and the lizard’s feet are naturalistically carved from yellow gold.
