An exquisite cameo suite by Joseph Mayer. Mayer was a nineteenth century antiquities collector and goldsmith, who collected and drew inspiration from antiquities. This set exemplifies Mayer’s passion for neoclassical imagery, featuring a wonderful brooch with a cameo depicting Diana and Cupid. Diana is recognizable from the bow she carries, which Cupid also reaches towards. The earrings feature a further goddess, depicted in profile leaning against a plinth. The cameos are fine white on pink stone, framed by Roman-style gold borders and decoration.
