A Late Victorian Ruby And Diamond Crescent Brooch
A late Victorian ruby and diamond crescent brooch, with one row of graduating cushion shape rubies estimated to weight 3.8 carats, and a row of graduating old brilliant-cut diamonds estimated to weigh 0.65 carats, claw set in silver, all on gold mount with brooch fitting, circa 1890, measuring approximately 2.8x 3.1cm, gross weight 6.28 grams.
A beautiful ruby and diamond brooch. This brooch is in the shape of an elegant crescent moon. Celestial themed jewellery became popular in the late Victorian period, and this brooch reflects this surge in popularity for moon motifs. The curved moon is set with deep red rubies on the outside and glinting diamonds on the inside. This brooch would look stunning pinned to the front of an evening gown.
