A Fabergé Hardstone Easter Egg Pendant

Description

A Fabergé hardstone Easter egg pendant, the carved white agate, set canted in a band of alternating set rose-cut diamond and cabochon rubies, all suspended by a gold loop bearing the hallmark of work-master Henrik Wigström, St Petersburg, gross weight 3.8 grams, circa 1910. A nearly identical pendant set with diamonds and rubies is in the Royal Collection Trust and was acquired by Queen Alexandra.

A fine hardstone egg pendant by Fabergé. Fabergé was established in St Petersburg in 1842, and by the late nineteenth century, was Russia’s largest and most well-known jewellery house. Today Faberge is most famous for his jewelled Easter eggs which had a particular significance symbolising the re-birth of spring after the long Russian winters. The house has become known for their royal commissions and their close ties to the family of Tsar Nicholas II. This exquisite pendant features a carved white agate Easter egg with a central band of glittering diamonds and vibrant rubies. This miniature egg pendant is a charming reference to the larger ornate Imperial Easter eggs made by Fabergé. This piece is signed by Henrik Wigström, one of the most important Fabergé workmasters.
