An Antique Russian Emerald And Diamond Dragonfly Brooch
An antique Russian emerald and diamond dragonfly brooch, the body a square-cut emerald with estimated weight 0.6 carats, the tail set with twelve emeralds and four diamonds, the wings and legs set with old-cut and rose-cut diamonds, the eyes a pair of cabochon-cut rubies, estimated total diamond weight 4 carats, all set in silver and yellow gold, with gold brooch fitting, bearing Russian hallmark, circa 1910, measuring approximately 5.5x7cm, gross weight 13.3 grams.
A beautiful Antique Russian brooch. The dragonfly has been rendered in exquisite, glittering detail. The body of the dragonfly is set with a pattern of bright, crème de menthe-coloured emeralds and dazzling diamonds. Further scintillating diamonds encrust the wings of the insect, and the eyes feature bright and vibrant rubies. This is a wonderful piece that exemplifies the early 20th Century style for gem-set insect motifs in jewellery.
