A Late Victorian Diamond Bird Brooch
A late Victorian diamond bird brooch, finely modelled in the form of a curlew, the head and plumage encrusted with old brilliant-cut and rose-cut diamonds, grain to a silver mount with 18ct yellow gold legs, bill and mount, with a cabochon ruby eye, circa 1900, measuring approximately 3 x 1.7cm, gross weight 6.4 grams. Unmarked tested as 18ct gold and Silver. A late Victorian diamond bird brooch in very good condition for its age.
A charming brooch. The features of this curlew have been exquisitely and delicately carved, and no detail has been spared, from the slender beak to the scaled feet. The glinting diamonds are lively and eye-catching, and this wonderful piece is perfect example Victorian animal jewellery.
