A vintage diamond and sapphire sailfish brooch, the curved body set with single-cut diamonds estimated to weigh 1.75 carats in total, the fins set with calibre-cut faceted sapphires estimated to weigh 2 carats in total, the pelvic fin with black enamel decorations, unmarked, tested as platinum with 9ct gold pin, circa 1950, measuring approximately 5.1 x 3.2cm, gross weight 9.6 grams.
This beautiful mid-twentieth century brooch takes the form of a sailfish, a fish known for its speed and large blue ‘sail’ fin on its back. This sparkling sailfish has a body set with sparkling round brilliant cut diamonds, with its fins set with deep blue step-cut sapphires. This elegant and characterful brooch would look perfect on the lapel of a smart jacket.
