More informationAn impressive Victorian diamond-set frog, the realistically carved body set with old European-cut diamonds estimated to weigh an approximate total of 20 carats, and faceted demantoid garnet-set eyes, all mounted in silver on red-gold back, with gold brooch and pendant fittings, circa 1870, measuring approximately 6x5cm, gross weight 39 grams.
A marvellous diamond-set frog pendant and brooch. During the Victorian era, jewellery designs drew inspiration from the natural world, and animal motifs, particularly reptiles and insects, were very popular. This piece is a realistically rendered frog made from red gold which has been set throughout with an impressive, combined weight of approximately 20 carats of scintillating diamonds. The diamonds vary in size and catch the light wonderfully. The eyes of the frog are lime-green garnet which glints beautifully and provides a fabulous contrast to the diamonds across the body. This piece has both a pendant and brooch fitting, making it a versatile and stunning Victorian statement piece.
