An Art Nouveau Diamond, Platinum And Gold Broch
An Art Nouveau diamond, platinum and gold broch, depicting a seated young lady holding an old-cut diamond, sitting within a rose-cut diamond-set circle, her dress draping with fine scroll engrave decorations with diamond encrusted finial and suspending a diamond-set trefoil drop, the diamonds estimated to weigh 1.6 carats in total, by Masriera, unsigned, all millegrain-set in platinum to yellow gold mount, with gold brooch fitting, bearing French import mark for 18ct gold, and platinum, circa 1910, measuring approximately 7 x 4cm, gross weight 22.6 grams.
This elegant yellow gold nymph brooch is a treasured piece of the collection of Bentley and Skinner. The Spanish jeweller, Masriera, produced many brooches with similar designs, and an identical one was recently sold at Sotherby’s in Paris.
