A French Late 19th Century Diamond Lizard Brooch

A French late 19th century diamond lizard brooch, the realistically carved body, head and legs set with seventy-two old European-cut diamonds estimated to weigh 5 carats in total, the eyes set with round cabochon-cut emeralds, all mounted in silver and yellow gold, with gold pin fitting, bearing French eagle-head gold mark, circa 1880, tested as silver and 18ct gold, measuring 7.3 x 2.5cm, gross weight 12.3 grams.

A gorgeous and characterful late nineteenth century brooch. This brooch is modelled in the form of a realistic lizard, with its body set throughout with alluring and lively old-cut diamonds. The two eyes of the lizard are bright cabochon-cut emeralds, which add further character to this lovely piece. This wonderful antique brooch would add sparkle and antique charm to the lapel of a jacket.
