The Caesars Cameo Necklace, a Regency hardstone cameo and gold chain necklace circa 1820, featuring chalcedony cameos of the twelve Roman emperors, all carved in a classical style, circa 1650 to 1780, each mounted in a yellow gold closed-back plaque circa 1780 and hand engraved with the emperor’s name, measuring approximately 41 x 2cm, gross weight 58.31 grams.

A spectacular early Victorian necklace. This necklace reflects the early nineteenth century interest in Ancient Roman motifs: famously, Napoleon was captivated by cameos, and Josephine’s Bonaparte owned a tiara of cameos given to her by Napoleon. Cameos became popular as the neoclassical style swept Europe in the early nineteenth century, and this necklace is the embodiment of this neoclassical style. This necklace sits beautifully at the base of the neck and makes a stunning, historical statement piece.
