An exquisite Cartier lorgnette. A lorgnette was a form of opera glass, and in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, became a popular type of accessory to women’s evening wear. This delicate lorgnette is a perfect example of the fine and detailed accessories they became in the early twentieth century, when they would be paired with intricate evening gowns. The handle of this piece features rose enamel decorated with bright yellow gold. The base and end of the handle feature fine diamond set foliate motifs, which add sparkle to these enchanting glasses. The glasses themselves feature yellow gold rims and hinges, making them collapsible into the handle. A romantic and beautiful piece.
