A Hellenistic carved garnet intaglio, the oval shaped intaglio measuring approximately 1.4 x 0.7cm and depicting Mars, circa 2nd century BC, gypsy-set to a later gold mount ring with closed back, measuring 2.2 x 0.9cm, finger size K ½, gross weight 11.4 grams.

An exceptional Hellenistic carved garnet intaglio. The enchanting oval-shaped intaglio portrays Dionysus, the god of wine and pleasure in a virile pose, elegantly encased within a striking gypsy-set gold mount ring with a closed back. This exquisite piece dates back to the 2nd century BC and exudes classical elegance and timeless allure.
