An 18th century gold gimmel ring, consisting of three separate hoops linked together so they can fit together unnoticeably as one, embellished with two interlocking hands pulled apart to reveal a heart to the centre within, circa 1750, measuring 2 x 0.8cm, finger size L, gross weight 8.2 grams.
A romantic and sentimental mid-eighteenth century gimmel ring. This lovely yellow gold gimmel ring is composed of three interlocking hoops that fit together to form one complete ring. It features two interlocking hands which, when pulled apart, reveal a heart in the centre. Such rings were fashionable in medieval and Renaissance times, and were often used as betrothal rigs. An early example dated to 1350 can be found in the Victoria and Albert Museum. This charming ring would make an unusual and original engagement ring.
