A pair of 19th century Archaeological Revival gold amphora drop earrings, the yellow disk with inner rope edge set to hook fitting, attached to an openwork scroll, suspending an amphora motif, earrings measuring 6.5 x 1.5cm, bearing later French import marks, 18 carat yellow gold, circa 1870, gross weight 8.7 grams, in a fitted Hallett Relon box.
An enchanting pair of gold Amphora earrings. These earrings were made in the archaeological revival style, which became popular during the mid-nineteenth century as increased archaeological expeditions led to new discoveries in ancient styles. These earrings are in the shape of yellow gold amphoras, suspended from an openwork gold scroll and plaque. Archaeological revival style earrings were highly popular during the Victorian era but have become popular again: Jessica Biel wore a pair of archaeological revival earrings to the 2017 Golden Globes, and Anne Hathaway wore a pair of antique amphora earrings to a 2019 movie premiere. A gorgeous pair of earrings.
