A pair of late Victorian vine drop earrings, pearl and gold drop earrings, each earring with a green champleve enamelled vine leaf, with silver veins set with rose-cut diamonds, to a naturalistic twisted gold vine with six hanging pearls measuring from 3.5 to 5mm in diameter, all mounted in yellow gold with later post and scroll fittings, circa 1890, measuring approximately 5 x 2.1cm, gross weight 14.9 grams.
A detailed and exquisite pair of earrings. These wonderful earrings reflect the late Victorian trend for naturalist jewellery, inspired in part by the Aesthetic movement which rejected mass-production and embraced the beauty of nature. William Morris, the textile designer, was a proponent of the aesthetic movement, and these earrings recall the naturalistic and curving vines and flowers that Morris was known to incorporate into his designs.
