A pair of gold plaque earrings by Akelo, each curved rectangular sheet gold plaque, suspended by two single loop-in-loop wire link chains, adjoining at a pendant loop, to a round sheet gold plaque surmount, the plaques decorated with filigree petals and circles and embellished with “fine dust” granulation, to a twisted wire work border, with wire hook fittings, all in yellow gold, hallmarked 18ct gold, London 2011, made by Andrea Cagnetti the Roman master goldsmith known as Akelo, measuring approximately 7.2 x 1.9cm, gross weight 14.6 grams.

A handsome pair of earrings. These earrings, named Naos by the master goldsmith from Rome Andrea Cagnetti, known as Akelo, use techniques and tools that have been practised in goldsmithing for thousands of years. Drawing inspiration from Etruscan, Greek, and Roman jewellery, Akelo’s designs are imbued with both antiquity and modernity. These earrings feature delicate filigree work and Akelo’s technique of “fine dust” granulation applied to curved gold sheets evocative of ancient craftsmanship. Akelo’s work can be seen in the museum collections of The Vatican, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, The Newark Museum, and others.
