More informationA Victorian natural pearl and diamond snake necklace, the three diamond-set snakes in coiled formation, each set with old European-cut diamonds and cabochon-cut ruby-set eyes and suspending a drop-shaped pearl, the diamonds estimated to weigh 5 carats in total, all mounted in silver and gold, connected by three rows of pearls forming festoons, accompanied by GCS report stating the pearls to be natural of saltwater origin, to a concealed snake clasp of matching design, circa 1870, the central snake element accompanied by detachable gold brooch fitting, the necklace is measuring approximately 38 x 4.2cm, gross weight 35.9 grams.
A charming mid-Victorian necklace. Three strands of lustrous natural pearls are set with four diamond and ruby coiled snake motifs with that at the back serving as a clasp. Serpent motifs were extremely popular in the mid-nineteenth century and symbolised everlasting love. These coiled serpents are set with sparkling diamonds and have bright and vibrant ruby eyes. This exquisite piece would look stunning worn with an evening gown with a low neckline for an eye-catching statement.
