More informationA Victorian turquoise and gold serpent chain necklace, a yellow gold muff chain set with nine turquoise beads within a rose gold square, leading to an ornate serpent head set with turquoise and garnet eyes, the mouth suspending a heart shape turquoise set locket, circa 1860, measuring approximately 75cm long, gross weight 119 grams.
A striking serpent chain. Serpent jewellery such as this necklace was popular in the mid-Victorian era, and serpents appeared on rings, brooches, necklaces, and bracelets. This necklace features a long yellow gold chain set with square gold and turquoise beads spaced throughout. At the end of the chain is a wonderful serpent set with further turquoise stones and holding a heart shaped locket from its mouth. The combination of bright yellow gold and vivid turquoise was very popular in the Victorian era: the two complement each other wonderfully.
