A late Georgian amethyst suite, the necklace centrally set with three oval faceted amethysts within gold scroll decorations, suspending a detachable drop with a pear-shaped and a small oval amethyst on a similar surround, attached to nineteen cushion and oval-cut faceted amethysts all set in closed-back collets, with a hidden snap clasp, accompanied by drop earrings of matching design, with gold wire fitting, all mounted in yellow gold, circa 1830, the necklace measuring approximately 41 x 6.3cm, the earrings measuring approximately 5.5 x 2cm, gross weight 88.6 grams.
A regal demi-parure. Colourful jewellery sets like this can be seen in portraits throughout the Regency era and into the 1830s, often paired with the quintessential empire waist white gown of the time. The amethyst stones in this necklace have a vivid and rich purple colour which pairs wonderfully with the bright yellow gold of the setting. The matching earrings are ornate, featuring scrolling motifs and impressive central stones. The overall effect of the suite is wonderful, and although this set is almost 200 years old, it would be a beautiful accessory to an evening gown.
