An Edwardian diamond-set corgi brooch

Description

An Edwardian diamond-set and enamel corgi brooch, the dog set throughout with old brilliant and rose-cut diamonds estimated to weigh 2 carats in total, with eyes enamelled in black and tongue in pink, all grain-set in silver and yellow gold, to a gold brooch fitting, circa 1900, measuring approximately 2.2 x 2.1 cm, gross weight 8.0 grams.

A charming diamond-set corgi brooch. This brooch was made in 1900 during the Edwardian period, in which jewellery had a lightness designed to imitate the most delicate lace. The dog depicted in this brooch is a corgi, which was Queen Elizabeth II’s favourite dog breed, with its large inquisitive ears and short, muscular legs. Muick is one of the Queen’s surviving corgis. Named after Loch Muick, one of her late majesty’s favourite places in Scotland, Muick adored the queen. This dog is full of character, with its pink enamel tongue hanging out, and its sweet, black enamel eyes. The diamonds making up the dog’s coat scintillate beautifully. This brooch would look marvellous with a smart black blazer, adding character and charm to any outfit. A lovely brooch.
