An exquisite cross pendant. Made in France in the late nineteenth century, this pendant features masterful use of plique-a-jour or ‘letting light in’ enamel work. The enamel is green and blue in a gold-accented foliate design. The figure of the crucified Christ is modelled realistically in yellow gold, with a red enamel halo. To the back is more plique-a-jour enamel and the Christogram HIS. The overall effect of this splendid piece of that of stained glass in a Gothic cathedral: it is a mesmerizing and exceptional piece.
