More informationA late Victorian ruby and diamond crescent brooch, one row consisting of twenty-one cushion-shaped faceted rubies graduating in size from the centre, estimated to weigh 3.8 carats in total, accompanied by GCS report stating the origin to be Thailand/Cambodia with no indication of heating, cut-down collet-set in gold, the inner row consisting of nineteen old-cut diamonds estimated to weigh 0.65 carats in total, grain-set in silver, all to an openwork gold gallery with pin brooch fitting, circa 1890, measuring approximately 2.8 x 3.1 cm, gross weight 6.2 grams.
A beautiful ruby and diamond brooch. This brooch is in the shape of an elegant crescent moon. Celestial themed jewellery became popular in the late Victorian period, and this brooch reflects this surge in popularity for moon motifs. The curved moon is set with deep red rubies on the outside and glinting diamonds on the inside. This brooch would look stunning pinned to the front of an evening gown.
